Marlin Lodge Information

An African safari in the heart of Mozambique, the Bazaruto Archipelago has been named as the Crown Jewels of the Western Indian Ocean. Benguerua Island is the diamond-encrusted tiara in this chain of pristine Islands. Nestled amidst the island shoreline, idyllic dhow sails and achingly beautiful skylines, languishes Marlin Lodge.

Built on elivated wooden stilts, the Lodge overlooks a tranquil Flamingo bay.

Benguera Island was originally named “Santa Antonio” by Portuguese explorers and was later named “Benguera” after a local Tribal chief. The island is approximately 11km in length and 5,5km wide and lays 14km offshore from the mainland and the town of Vilanculos.

At Marlin Lodge you can't escape the age-old rhythms of Africa, and the sense of history. There's the legacy of Portuguese carracks, trading dhows bearing slaves and ivory to the East and whispered legends of the Queen of Sheba's Ophir pearls.

Each day you'll be reminded of the Archipelago's colourful past as fishermen pole their beautiful dhows - a sight unaltered in centuries - out to catch the wind. The locals continue to live a laid-back island lifestyle. And late at night you may hear the pulse of distant drums.

Luxury Chalets

These Chalets, were introduced July 2006. We offer 14 of these unique Chalets in Total.

The Marlin Lodge Beach chalets, also before known as the Private Luxury chalets, are set just above the beach, sea facing, and only a few steps from the white sands of flamingo bay beach.

Each of the Luxury beach chalets is 60sqm on the inside and 17sqm veranda. The verandah is also a perfect location for a private dinner for two. The inside of the chalets is constructed with sophisticated designed finishes, including slated flooring, plastered surfaces and soft lighting.

Executive Suites

The Executive suite's sheer size is what makes them so breathtaking. Boasting with 80sqm floor space, and a veranda of 30sqm, this room is the perfect haven for the discerning traveler. Similar to the Private Luxury Chalets, the inside of the chalets is constructed with more sophisticated finishes such as slated flooring, plastered surfaces and soft lighting.

Diving and Snorkeling

The warm topical waters of Benguerua Island have nature’s finest marine-life waiting to be explored by divers beneath their surface, with snorkelling adventures satisfying any curious enthusiast.

Led by the PADI Qualified resident diving instructor, diving sites and depths are varied along all levels of diving experience.

A fully equipped on site dive centre, will provide you with all the needed equipment.

Angling

Safari holidays for the angling enthusiast, the Bazaruto Archipelago is heralded as one of the greatest game fishing sites in the Indian Ocean

Species such as Sailfish, Blue and Black Marlin, and King Fish can be found roaming deep beneath the waters.
